Heavily favored in the Hawkeyes S., Flat Out Speed perched
fourth about four paths off the fence behind an opening quarter
of :23.30. She moved up into third without exerting herself and
was already breathing down the leaders’ necks as noses pointed
toward home. Seizing the lead shortly thereafter, she edged to
the front and held on to win in determined fashion.

A two-time black-type winner facing off with Iowa-breds last
term, the dark bay was riding a three-racing winning streak into
the Hawkeyes H., having won the restricted Bob Bryant S. in late
June, the GIII Iowa Oaks in July and an allowance locally Aug. 2.

The unraced Blue Gallina foaled a filly by Not This Time this
year and was bred back to Good Samaritan.
