Today’s world is fast paced and complicated. Trainers of winning race horses know the importance of a well-run training facility. The Aiken Training Track, for 75 years, is a proven training ground for race horses.
For instance, as recently as July 2019, three horses who trained at the Aiken Training Track scored big successes at Belmont Park. Henley’s Joy captured the $1-million Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes. Concrete Rose, called “American Beauty” in Bloodhorse magazine, scored in the $750,000 Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes. Both races were Grade 1 and both were contested on grass. In addition, a third horse trained at the Aiken Training Track, 5-year-old Killybegs Captain, finished 3rd in the $300,000. John A. Nerud Stakes. That race, a Grade 11 was run on dirt and also at Belmont Park.
What is the winning ingredient? The combination of warm, dry air with cooler mornings contributes to the health of a young and old horse, alike. Our winter season, in particular, is ideal for training horses. The cold snaps encourage them to grow a winter coat, which they shed in the spring. Their natural response to the season makes then strong and hearty.
The track surface is renowned. The Aiken Training Track offers a nice, quiet setting for older horses and enough activity to prepare your 2 yearolds for the races.
Horses can train the opposite way on our 5/8 mile training track, gallop on the infield grass, hack out on the clay roads which surround the barns and track, experience a trail ride in the 2300 acre Hitchcock Woods or even do gymnastics or cavaletti poles in a nearby jump field. Trainers appreciate the options offered at our facility.
Numerous top notch veterinarians, therapists and farriers service our facility. Several, dependable tack and feed stores are nearby . On site tack repair is offered by our well known “Saddle Doctor” and delicious breakfasts are served at “Pocket’s” track kitchen.
