DREAM SHAKE got his early training with Cary Frommer on the Aiken Training Track. Cary sold him at OBS to part-owner Exline-Border Racing. DREAM SHAKE qualified for the Derby with 2 graded stakes placings, but trainer Peter Eurton opted for the Pat Day instead. He raced just off the pace and engaged with the eventual winner in a wild stretch duel. He missed by a head. The fractions were FAST: :21.75, 43.68.and six furlongs in 1:07.97.
